I’m not sure if this fully counts as networking, but honestly, when I’m not at school, I’m usually at work, so I haven’t had much time to go out of my way to network. That said, I have been making some efforts! I reached out to My-Tien from class, who has been a big help, and I’ve also connected with classmates from previous semesters. For example, I remembered that one of my peers’ sisters started substitute teaching right after college, so I asked her what that process looked like, and she was kind enough to give me some insight. I’m hoping to do more networking over the summer when I have more free time. I’ve noticed that I don’t feel as socially awkward as I used to, so when I’m out, I try to make small talk. Over spring break, I was out in Santa Cruz and saw someone drawing. So, my friend (who studies art history) and I came up to him, and he ended up sharing his website and talking about his art and inspirations: https://harry-holiday.pixels.com/. He was really down to earth, and it was super informal as networking, but it was still nice to connect and see artists in the wild.
